The Brake Drum

At the core of every true steel band you'll find the metal car part known as the "iron". It is the lowly brake drum from a car wheel, elevated to the highest ranking of the steel orchestra! It can single-handedly bring an 80-piece band to a full stop, or drive it into a frenzy. Of course, this power is wielded only by the most senior members of the steel band.
