Rainier Tower

Completed in 1977, this 40-story edifice is one of the instantly recognizable features of the Seattle downtown core. Designed by architectural genius Minoru Yamasaki, the tower floats above the plaza below on a narrow column, which flares out to the building proper as it rises into the sky. The band played just below it on this day, and looking straight up at the tower is a little disconcerting!
